President pledges to remove obstacles and uplift people’s lives
The President stated that the government will fulfil its duties towards the war heroes who liberated the country.
He said that the humanitarian operation to normalise life has not come to an end. The President made the statement when he inaugurated Abihimansala 2, the wellness resort complex for the totally disabled war heroes at Wilpitawatta in Kamburupitiya, Galle. The Abhimansala programme has been launched to rehabilitate, provide treatment and relaxation to the war heroes who risked their lives to protect the motherland and became totally disabled. The Abhimansala is built on a land of 10 acres, rich in bio diversity and natural resources, at the expenditure of 240 million rupees. It consists of a number of high tech equipment that is not available at home. It consists of 7 villas and 5 quarters. It also consists facilities for hydro therapy, physiotherapy, as well as gymnasiums, laboratories, swimming pools, Ayurvedic centres and auditoriums. Medical facilities are available round the clock. It will provide life long protection for 28 war heroes from the south who are confined to wheel chairs and 20 totally disabled war heroes.
Speaking at the occasion, the President said that the government has already fulfilled the responsibility of providing a comfortable life not only for the war heroes who fought against terrorist but also for their family members.
The country has to bear the responsibility of the war heroes who belong to the country. He said that the honour of the war heroes should be upheld. It is being done amidst allegations made and conspiracies hatched inside and outside the country. He said that on one side government is building the destroyed lives of the people in the north and east while on another side those who committed themselves for the protection of the country are being looked after. He said that most of the service personnel are from remote villages. He expressed confidence that their families are living far more comfortable lives today compared with the past as infrastructure in the villages are steadily increasing. He said that the soldiers having physical disabilities are warmly welcomed into the country where people having no disabilities are leading worthless lives. He stressed that it is better to die after liberating the country than living in a country where there is no freedom.
The President also donated books for the use of the soldiers. The parents of war heroes expressing their views said that the government is acting in a commendable manner towards their children who are committed for the development of the country.
