Tea Board and Dialog, frontrunners to sponsor the National Cricket team
Sri Lanka Cricket has got highly competitive bids from four parties vying to sponsor the national cricket team for a period of three years, starting from June 2013.
Among the parties, who have come forward are, Dialog Axiata, Sri Lanka Tea Board, Total Sports Asia of India and another firm.
According to SLC sources, the highest bid has come from Dialog Axiata, who has put forward a figure of Rs. 1.077 billion.
While another firm, which has forwarded its bid through an agency has quoted a price of Rs. 1.075 billion.
Sri Lanka Tea Board, which is trying to promote its ‘Ceylon Tea’ Brand through cricket, has come up with a sponsorship figure of Rs. 890 million.
Total Sports Asia of India has quoted a sum of Rs. 750 million.
According to SLC CEO, Ajith Jayasekera evaluations are still underway.
“Nothing has been finalized”, he told News360.lk
SLC Treasure Nuski Mohamed says the response it has received is encouraging.
“It will take a week or two to select a party as the team sponsor”, Mohamed told News360.lk.
SLC sources say, Sri Lanka Tea Board and Dialog are among the possible front-runners to clinch the deal.
Once selected, the respective entity will be the sponsor for the men’s and women’s team, covering all bi-lateral tests, ODI’s and T20 Internationals stipulated in the ICC’s Future Tours Programme.
