New variety of tea introduced
A new variety of tea that provides 100 percent crop has been introduced to the plantation sector.
The Minister of Plantation Industries revealed that the new variety of tea provides double the amount of tea leaves harvested at present. Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe revealed this while addressing the Annual General Meeting of the tea factory owners. The 22nd Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Tea Factory Owners Association was held at Waters Edge, Battaramulla. The AGM was held with the participation of all sectors engaged in the tea industry. The main focus was on the international market and the problems faced by tea small holders. The planters who shown excellence were also felicitated. Speaking further Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said that a number of measures have been taken for the promotion of the tea industry.(
