Vaas shines as Deccans win, Daredevils drop off colour Dilshan

Veteran seamer Chaminda Vaas continued to embarrass the Sri Lanka selectors who ignored him for the Twenty20 World Cup squad with another clinical bowling performance as Deccan Chargers registered a 10-run victory over Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League encounter at Barabati stadium in Cuttack on Sunday. In contrast, Delhi Daredevils dropped out of form Tillekaratne Dilshan who had proved to be a flop this season. Dilshan who was adjudged the most outstanding player at the last Twenty20 World Cup recently secured fresh contracts with New South Wales and Sussex but failed to live up to his reputation in the IPL so far and was the second Sri Lankan World Cup poolist after Farvees Maharoof to be dropped by Daredevils this season. Andrew Symonds who took three wickets for 21 runs was the chief architect of Deccans’ victory. Though stand-in skipper Dinesh Karthik, who scored 46 off 27 balls led his side from the front but he couldn’t carry his team to victory, as he was caught and bowled by Symonds in the 19th over. Opener David Warner (57 off 33 balls) gave an explosive start to his team while Karthik slammed 4 fours and two sixes in his 27-ball blitzkrieg.   www.dailymirror.lk/index.php/sports/cricket/2539-vaas-shines-as-deccans-win-daredevils-drop-off-colour-dilshan.html
