Sri Lanka beats England in the final ODI to clinch the series

Sri Lanka on Tuesday won the final ODI played against England in the on-going tour to clinch the 5 match series by 3 to 2, thanks to an all round performance by the visitors.

England, who batted first was only able to score 219 in 50 overs, while in response Sri Lanka managed to  reach the target in the 49th over.

Sri Lanka at one stage was on 63 runs for the loss of three wickets.

Lahiru Thirimanna top scored for the Lankans with a knock of 60, while Mahela Jayawardena made 53.  Skipper Anjelo Mathews scored an unbeaten 42 runs from just 34 balls.

Thirimanna’s 60 runs came from around 101 balls and Jayawardena took 90 plus balls to score his 53, as both were tasked with the job of rebuilding the Lankan innings, after they lost three early wickets.
