Taking HR to the next level: HR Service Providers Exhibition 2014

Increasingly, the importance of HR is being recognised beyond the field of academia, and is entering in to public discourse. It has been recognised that effective Human Resources management practices are key to the well-being of any company. To further this national dialog, and in an attempt to take this discourse to the next level, the Institute of Personnel Management of Sri Lanka (IPM) has organised the National HR Conference for the 29th consecutive year.
The National Human Resources Conference (NHRC) 2014 will kick off this year with the launch of the Human Resources Service Providers Exhibition 2014, on Wednesday 18 June at the Delegates Lounge, BMICH. Open to the public from 10 a.m., the event is designed to enable HR service-providers to showcase their products and interact with the public. In addition, the service providers will have the attention of an esteemed audience, consisting of leading entrepreneurs, business leaders, industry veterans, and academics.

 The final battles: The Great HR Debate 2014

The National HR Conference 2014 opens its doors tomorrow, 18 June. Among the multitude of events organised surrounding the conference, the finals of the Great HR Debate is, without doubt, one of the most anticipated at the conference.
Edition five of this the ‘Great HR Debate’, synonymous with the NHRC has seen fierce competition over the years, as participants from the previous years’ no doubt will attest to. This year, the semi-final battles saw riveting debates where the Hemas Team triumphed over their worthy opponents at Virtusa; and HNB prevailed over their tough counterparts from Hayleys.
Tomorrow will see the financial titans of HNB proposing that the ‘introduction of the hire and fire system will boost organisations performance,’ while the industrial giants of Hemas will oppose that notion.
A highly-esteemed judging panel, consisting of industry experts, academics, and business leaders, will pick the winning team.
Organisers of the NHRC 2014 – the Institute of Personnel Management of Sri Lanka (IPM) – since its inception in 1959, has been playing a key role in the upgrade of the country’s HR infrastructure and continues to play a pivotal role in taking the HR related discourse in the country forward.
The active participation of over 15 leading private and public sector organizations at the preceding battles of the Great HR Debate 2014 is evidence of the validity of the HR dialogue, on a national, as well as institutional level.
The Great HR Debate 2014 is staged by the IPM as part of the NHRC 2014, with sponsorship from the Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC.

The IPM, since its inception in 1959, has been playing a key role in the upgrade of the country’s HR infrastructure and continues to play a pivotal role in the training and development of HR professionals to date. IPM CEO Dyan Seneviratne reiterated the importance of having a fully developed HR infrastructure for the future by stating, “Sri Lanka is a fast growing middle-income economy. If our industries are to take advantage of this environment, which is so conducive for growth, they have to start laying the foundations for a robust HR system in-house. At IPM, we have the tools and the expertise to be a partner in that pursuit.”
