SL’s Chandrika Subashini does not advance to finals of Commonwealth Games event
Blessing Okagbare blitzed the field in the women’s 100m final
Sri Lankan sprinter Chandrika Subashini did not advance to the finals of the women’s 400m event at the ongoing Commonwealth Games.
The qualifying round of the women’s 400m was worked off at Hampden Park on July 29 morning.
Jamaica’s Stephanie McPherson came in first with a time of 50.69 seconds.
England’s Kelly Massi came in 2nd while Meloro Motesho of Nigeria came in 3rd.
Sri Lankan Chandrika Subashini came in fourth clocking a time of 52.67 seconds.
In the Men’s 100 meters event, Jamaica’s Kemar Bailey-Cole won the Commonwealth Games Gold. England’s Adam Gemili bagged Silver while Jamaican Nickel Ashmeade took Bronze.
In the womens event, Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare set a new Commonwealth record of 10.85 seconds to win 100m gold.
Okagabare produced a fine piece of relaxed sprinting to leave Veronica Campbell Brown in Silver and Kerron Stewart Bronze.
