Labourers drive the vehicles at Colombo M C
It is reported that though there are more than 700 vehicles owned by the Colombo Municipal Council, there are only 470 drivers employed.
It is said that as there are no drivers, the officers as well as labourers drive these vehicles.
As there is no transport officer or an officer in charge, it is said that most of these vehicles are going astray.
Under such circumstances, it is said that 12 vehicles were purchased recently.
The employees complain that those who are not entitled for official vehicles are using these vehicles even for their personal use at homes.
The reports reveal that the estimated fuel cost per year for these vehicles is approx. Rs. 400 million.
