Former Army Chief has denigrated the country and undermined the war heroes
The statement made by former Army Chief Sarath Fonseka to the BBC not only denigrates the country, but also belittles the gallant soldiers. This reference has been made by Director General of the Media Centre for National Security Lakshman Hulugalla.
He said Sarath Fonseka has given another statement to the BBC betraying the country. He had been doing this during the last six to seven months prior to his retirement or after retirement. As a politician he has been betraying the country, the leadership of this country and the Defence Secretary who had given a huge leadership to destroy terrorism. By making a statement to the BBC, Sarath Fonseka had betrayed the entire nation, the forces, the leadership of this country as well as the leadership which gave courage to crush LTTE. Mr. Hulugalle emphasized that they totally condemn the statements made by Sarath Fonseka.
The former Army Commander joining in BBC’s “Hard Talk” programme yesterday again made a statement betraying the motherland. Participating in an interview with the Sunday Leader Editor Frederica Jansz in September last year, Sarath Fonseka had made a statement undermining the valiant soldiers. He said that the Defence Secretary had ordered to kill those who were approaching the Military with white flags.
The entire country faced a crisis situation with pressure mounting from the international community. However, surmounting these challenges from the world and advancing forward, Sarath Fonseka has again put the motherland into a dangerous position. Analysts point out that this amounted to a betrayal of not only the valiant soldiers who dedicated their lives to end the 30-year old ruthless war but also the entire nation.
