Awareness Progrfams on Draft National Policy Framework for Social Integration in Nuwara Eliya
An awareness programme on the draft National Policy Framework for Social Integration organized by the National Languages and Social Integration Ministry and with the coordination of the Nuwara Eliya District Secretariat, was held on Thursday (28). The programme was held under the patronage of National Languages and Social Integration Ministry Secretary Ms.Malkanthi Wickremasinghe and the Nuwara Eliya District Secretary D.P.G.Kumarasirighe.
The main objective of organizing this programme was to obtain views and suggestions in the preparation of the National Policy Framework for Social Integration. In the Mahinda Chinthana Vision for the Future, much prominence has been given to promote national integration. The bi-lingual policy is being implemented in all government institutions in the Nuwara Eliya District as Nuwara Eliya stands out as a district where bilingualism exists.
Speaking on the occasion, the Nuwara Eliya District Secretary emphasised the importance of bilingualism especially in institutions like District's hospitals, Police stations and transport where the pubic directly deals with. Also he pointed out that one of the purposes of the programme was to build social understanding and gtrust among diverse communities bsed on peace and social integration.
The programme saw the participation of all religious leaders, Nuwara Eliya Hospital Director, Senior Superintendet of Police Nuwara Eliya and the Additional District Secretary.(KH)
