President’s kindness to CIC
1800 acres (694 hectares) from Mahaweli 'H' Zone have been given without levying any tax to CIC, a multinational company that gobbles agriculture in the country. The lands are used for paddy, fruit, agri-crops and poultry production. The land has been given during former President Ranasinghe Premdasa on 13th November, 1992. This is stated in a document prepared by Mahaweli Authority.
It is clear that no tax has been levied for the land during the period from President Ranasinghe Premadasa to President Mahinda Rajapaksa. According to the document prepared on 30.04.2014 despite stating ‘tax notifications have been sent’, there is no description regarding the amount of tax, arrears or any other information.
Despite, ‘Malwanegama Farm, CIC’ is stated in the document, no acceptable address is mentioned. It is notable that address of a main office or details for correspondence or legal matters has not been mentioned in the document.
The incumbent President too has accommodated giving more than 1800 acres to the multinational company while the second generation of farmers in Mahaweli zones is confronted with an acute shortage of lands.
