UNESCAP Asia Pacific Business Forum concludes
UNESCAP Asia Pacific Business Forum was held from Nov.25 to 27 for the very the first time in Sri Lanka and it was an significant moment as it was held in a South Asian country for the first time. The theme this year was “Enhancing regional business sustainability and investment” with the particular aim of giving businesses and other stakeholders from South Asia and other sub regions a stronger voice.
Sri Lanka is today a country at peace with rapid economic growth and has achieved nearly US$ 1.4 billion in FDI. We are very keen to take this forward and this can be achieved only through active and very effective promotion, the Minister further emphasised.
"Sri Lanka is now looking at high technology investments. Delegates will see the images of CHEC Port City Colombo. This project which some of you will see from your hotel windows is the ongoing construction of a completely new business district for Colombo on reclaimed land. This state of the art Chinese investment is a reflection of Sri Lanka’s aspiration to become a significant economic player and hub in the Asia Pacific Region. This is how we in Sri Lanka see our economic future and I invite you to become our partners in our growth.
"Sri Lanka has always had excellent relations with the United Nations and was indeed one of the first Asian members-states of that world body. The Government of Sri Lanka is therefore very happy and honoured that the APBF is held this year in Colombo", the Minister added.
Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development, Datuk Seri Mohamed Iqbal Rawther, Chairman of EBAC, Dr. Ravi Ratnayake, Director of UNESCAP, distinguished Representatives of the United Nations, Members of EBAC, senior official of the Government and the BOI, Representatives participated at the Forum.
