Four people who were engaged in propaganda activities allied to a public gathering participated in by the Left's Common Candidate Duminda Nagamuwa, have been severely assaulted. This attack has been carried out by a group who came in a vehicle carrying out propaganda supporting Maithripala Sirisena, and are believed to be his supporters.

The attack took place at around 5.00 am on Friday (19) morning while the victims were pasting posters to notify the local public of the public gathering that is to be held on Friday in Wellampitiya. Two people have been seriously injured in the attack, and have been admitted to the hospital. The victims say that the attackers came in a van with stickers of “Maithri Palanayak” which seems to be engaging in propaganda for the presidential election. A complaint had been filed at the Wellampitiya police regarding this incident.
