The Gem Industry joins in glittering Sri Lanka throughout the World.

Sri Lanka was able to increase the demand for local Gem and jewellery in the world market during the past period. There is a high demand from many countries for gem and jewellery as well as jewellery embedded with Diamonds. The National Gem and Jewellery Authority pointed out that it was able to earn an income of over 15 Billion rupees during the last few months.

Chairman of the Authority Anil Koswatta said that compared to last year, this they could witness a growth in this sector. It indicates a 25 percent growth up to now. Their target is to achieve a 35 percent growth. He said this is possible due to their marketing strategy and through buyer seller meetings. He was optimistic that they could achieve a 35 percent growth at the end of the year. The United States has become buyer number two. However, Malaysia, China and Hong Kong have come in the top ten list. This, he added was a good sign for the industry.
