Ukrainian PM Meets With President
Ukrainian Prime Minster Mykola Azarov today (1st July) met with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse, where the two dignitaries had agreed on a number of issues pertaining to the current discussions and agreements, in the context of further enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries.
Azarov had made clear the Ukrainian governments readiness to immediately begin the implementing of a number of agreements reached by the Presidents of Ukraine and Sri Lanka during talks held yesterday, on establishing a bilateral Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic cooperation.
He had added that the Intergovernmental Commission would develop practical issues of cooperation at intergovernmental level in various industries and draw particular attention to the avoidance of double taxation of goods and services, noting that Ukraine would be be represented in this commission at the highest level.
The meeting comes on the heels of bilateral discussions held between Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse and Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych yesterday (30th), the signing of a number of agreements between the two states and the Ukraine-Sri Lanka Business Forum that was held parallel to the Sri Lankan Presidents first official visit to Ukraine.
The President, who left on the 29th of June, at the invitation of the Ukrainian President with a delegation that includes senior government officials and officials from the islands private sector, as well as the Minster for External Affairs G.L Pieri , is expected back in Sri Lanka on Saturday (3rd) .
