Gota’s armouries lead to legal issue
The discovery of armouries last week that created an outburst in the society has become an issue for the legal sector as well. A team of state lawyers has been appointed to probe the legality of Rakna Lanka and Avant-Garde Security Services [Pvt] Ltd.
Legal experts say the Defense Secretary arbitrarily allowing private companies to maintain armouries without the approval of the cabinet is a serious matter. It is more serious as the highest officers of the three services have been appointed to the director boards or senior positions in the companies they point out.
The weapons found in armouries discovered include Chinese made T-56 rifles, AK 47 weapons and ammunition, machine guns, night vision weapons, radio transmitters and other equipment used in military operations. They say the existence of more than 700,000 ammunition and the disappearance of 2256 T-56 rifles should be considered with utmost urgency and vigilance.
