Rakna Lanka took weapons on rent, 3473 weapons disappeared
Cinnamon Gardens Police informed Colombo Chief Magistrate today (26th) that the weapons stored at BMICH by Rakna Lanka security company had been obtained from state armed services on rent but moneys due to them have not been paid.
The police informed the Magistrate they have confirmed this on a statement given to the police by Maj. Gen. (retired) Wijekone Bandara. 44 T-56 rifles, 35 S84 weapons, 32 light machine guns, 29 bore 12 guns including 151 firearms have been found in the armoury. However, according to the inventory 3473 weapons including 2300 T-56 rifles, 670 S-84 weapons, 385 light machine guns have disappeared from the armoury.
The Director of Rakna Lanka has said the weapons stored in the armoury had been issued by STF and other security forces. Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya ordered police to submit another report regarding the weapons in the armoury and put off the hearing until 23rd February.
