Muttiah Muralitharan will retire from test cricket because he feels the time is right, confirmed the off-spinner’s manager, Kushil Gunasekera.

“He’s realized there’s a time to let go… and I believe he’s letting up at the right

time,” said Gunasekera, adding that at 38 the Sri Lankan bowler cannot be expected to perform the same way he did a few years ago.

“He wanted to give up all international forms of the game, but I think Sri Lanka Cricket made an appeal that he should consider playing for the World Cup.”

A press conference is scheduled for 6 o’clock today. Muralitharan will play test cricket for the last time in Galle, in the matches against India from the 18th to the 22nd of July.
