UN Under Secretary General to arrive in Sri Lanka today

The Under Secretary General of the Department of Political Affairs of the United Nations Jeffrey Feltman will arrive in Sri Lanka today on a four-day visit from 28 February to 3 March 2015.

UN official's visit, which follows the meeting on 13 February between UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera in New York, manifests Sri Lanka' renewed engagement with the United Nations, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement.

 

"During the visit, Mr. Feltman will meet a range of ministers and government officials to discuss the broad partnership between the UN and the Government of Sri Lanka," the Ministry said.

 

He will meet political leaders and members of civil society organizations and also travel to Jaffna on 2 March.

 

This will be Mr. Feltman's first visit to Sri Lanka, and according to the UN, he looks forward to discussing with Sri Lankan leaders various issues of mutual concern.
