Six treasure hunters arrested in Maduru Oya
Maha Oya Police arrested six individuals who were carrying on an excavation in Umunugala area of Maduru Oya National Park yesterday (5) at around 3.00p.m. These people were arrested during a raid Police conducted, on the basis of a tip-off they have received.
These suspects have been conducting the excavation in hopes of finding archaeological objects, Police told Ceylon Today Online. Equipments used for excavating were also taken into police custody.
The suspects are residents of Hingurakgoda, Kaduruwela, Kantale and Polonnaruwa areas. Maha Oya Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
