Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC recently donated essential training medical equipment to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital which is the second largest teaching hospital in Sri Lanka. This hospital treats more than 12,000 child patients a year, of which approximately 300-500 patients (per annum) are admitted to the paediatric intensive care unit for treatment.
The handing over ceremony of the training medical equipment was held on 17 March at the Karapitiya Faculty of Medicine auditorium, in the presence of University of Ruhuna Dean of Faculty of Medicine Prof. Sarath Lekamwasam, Karapitiya Teaching Hospital Deputy Director Dr. Chandima Sirithunga, Head of the Paediatric ICU Prof. Sujeewa Amarasena, Pediatric Intensive Care Specialist Dr. Manjula Hewageegana, distinguished stakeholders of Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC from the area, staff of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, staff and students of the Ruhuna Faculty of Medicine as well as the staff of Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC.
The donated training equipment consists predominantly of child mannequins that are able to demonstrate the pulse rate, blood pressure, heart rates similar to a human child, which makes the teaching experiences and practices more realistic. This training equipment will be utilised to train medical students, trainee doctors, doctors, paramedics, welfare workers and nurses on mock scenarios. Prior to the donation of the mannequins, the medical staff and students practiced the required medical procedures on the critically ill child patients, causing the patients discomfort and pain.

The company’s CSR commitment focusing on the betterment of ‘People’ has been evident in the previous CSR initiatives engagements such as the renovation made to the OPD facility and the doctor’s meeting room of the Matara General Hospital, at a cost of Rs. 7 million, the donation of a much needed external fix at or machine to the Army hospital bearing a cost of Rs. 4 million during the war to treat the injured soldiers, HIV aids awareness campaign and the road safety campaign ‘Caltex drive wise, embrace life’ to create better safety and prevention of fatality.
Chevron Lubricants Lanka’s donation of the essential training medical equipment to improve Sri Lanka’s medical service was another noble cause which the company is proud to have sponsored, to uplift the Sri Lankan economy through the development of its citizens, especially the future generation.
