Sri Lanka-El Salvador relations further strengthened

Sri Lanka-El Salvador relations have been further strengthened with Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Cuba, Sarath Dissanayake presenting his Letter of Credence to President of El Salvador, Salvador Sánchez Cerén on 20 March. Ambassador Dissanayake was among five envoys and ambassadors from Austria, Finland, Norway and Denmark who presented their Letters of Credence to the El Salvadorian President.
On 20 March, the group of Ambassadors were escorted in by a motorcade to the President’s House and received by the Chief of Protocol and following an impressive ceremonial welcome by the Presidential Guard, the envoys were received by Cerén accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador, Hugo Martinez.
After presenting his Letter of Credence, Ambassador Dissanayake conveyed the greetings and best wishes from President Maithripala Sirisena to Cerén. President Cerén, having accepted the Credentials from Ambassador Dissanayake, conveyed his best wishes and expressed satisfaction at the current state of relations between El Salvador and Sri Lanka.
The President also emphasised El Salvador’s commitment to further strengthen relations between the two countries. Dissanayake recalled his previous visit to El Salvador for the Inauguration Ceremony of the President in June 2014. The Ambassador also met with senior officials of the Foreign Ministry to explore opportunities for further cooperation between the two countries.
Sri Lanka and El Salvador established diplomatic relations in 2012 following the signing of an Agreement in Colombo on 10 December 2012.
