May 26, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s controversial Chinese funded port city project builders say that they are awaiting for a positive reply from the Sri Lankan government on the suspicion of port city work.

An official of the project company of port city Sri Lanka, CHEC port city Colombo private limited said that the discussions are still going on and once given a decision the company is ready to reveal its plan on the project to public.

“Given the economic growth of the last couple of years, we saw a lot of potential in the country,” Liang Thow Ming, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer said.

“Our plan is to have a clean and green city,”

“We have studied lot of models of the cities build all over the world and we enhanced the potential feed from those to see what we can do in the port city (Colombo),”

“If the government of Sri Lanka approves, we are ready to show the design.” He added.

However when asking about the level of discussion with the Sri Lankan government, the official denied replying saying “NO Comment”.

The new regime suspended the project in March this year due to a pending investigation report.

The 1.4 billion US dollar Chinese Port City is to be constructed between the Southern edge of the new Colombo South Port and the Fort Lighthouse.

The total area of sea to be reclaimed is 252 hectares.

However the government allowed, the Chinese construction company to build the 3.25 kilometer long break water of the port city, an offshore barrier, in order to prevent damage from heavy rains and sea erosion to the project.
