Korean Cultural Festival - 2015 on June 26 - 27

The Korean Cultural Festival 2015 will be held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on 26-27 June.

The Korean Embassy, in partnership with Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and State Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Sri Lanka, has organised this event as an open forum for Korean culture and sports. The Festival consists of three main events: K-pop World Festival 2015 and Quiz on Korea 2015, and the 1st Korean Ambassador’s and Kukkiwon Cup Taekwondo Championship.

This year’s cultural festival differs from previous events which was a one-sided show by the Embassy. The Korean Embassy encourages the participation of the Sri Lankan public.

K-pop World Festival 2015 in Sri Lanka (27 June, 16:00-18:30) invites talented Sri Lankan vocalists and/or dancers to show their K-pop spirit on stage. Two winning teams (from vocal and performance each) will stand the chance to go to Korea for the international final round in October, where they will be able to meet with K-pop stars and share the stage with them, after a screening process by the Korean counterparts.

Quiz on Korea 2015 in Sri Lanka (27 June, 09:30-12:00) is a survival quiz competition where the questions will be surrounding generic topics on Korea, including the Korean lifestyle, traditional culture and history. Sample questions are available on the Embassy website in order to guide the contestants.

If one closely study the questions (including the multiple choice options), he/she will be able to get 95% of the questions right. The single winner will be invited to learn and experience Korea in September, and compete with national representatives from different countries around the world to win the top prize.

Both online and offline submissions are welcome until 10 June for both the K-pop and Quiz competition (Visit korembsrilanka@gmail.comor facebook page for more details).

The 1st Korean Ambassador’s and Kukkiwon Cup Taekwondo Championship was jointly organised by the Korean Embassy and Sri Lanka Taekwondo Federation. Preliminaries will take place 20 June at the Sports Hostel Complex, Ministry of Sports, and the final championship will take place at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on 26-27 June.

The prizes and benefits does not only apply for the contestants. Lucky draws will be drawn for the audience to appreciate their attendance. This event is sponsored by Samsung Electronics, Korean Airlines, LG Abans, Hyundai and KIA motors.
