President pledges to launch unbiased investigations into missing journalists
President Maithripala Sirisena notes that files pertaining to the investigations on journalists who were reported missing will be reopened and steps will be taken to carry out unbiased investigations into their disappearances.
The President pointed out that the current administration stands firm in their commitment to ensure the rule of law in the country. President Sirisena expressed these sentiments on Friday (May 29th) during a function held at the auditorium of the Sri Lanka Bar Association (BASL).
During the event former President of the BASL Attorney-at-Law Upul Jayasuriya handed over $5000, which he received as prize money for winning the 2nd Commonwealth Rule of Law award, to the family of journalist Pradeep Eknaligoda who has been missing for the past 5 years.
Speaking further President Maithripala Sirisena noted that the foundation to create good governance in the country has already been laid. However the President also noted that the incorrect political culture present in the country cannot be changed overnight and that this can only be accomplished by following a precise plan.
