SC's DeMint joins Mulvaney on campaign trail
U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint is campaigning to help a state senator in his bid to oust South Carolina's longest-serving congressman.
DeMint is joining state Sen. Mick Mulvaney of Lancaster on four stops on Thursday in the 5th congressional district. The first-term GOP state senator is trying to unseat Democratic U.S. Rep. John Spratt. The House Budget Committee chairman was first elected to Congress in 1982.Mulvaney and DeMint will start the day at the grand opening of Sumter's Republican office. They will later tour a Rock Hill business and attend barbecues in Elgin and Lancster.DeMint has become a darling of the tea party movement. He is expected to handily beat Democrat Alvin Greene.
