CA Asks EC To Accept UPFA Nominations

The Court of Appeal has today directed the Elections Commissioner to accept 33 nomination papers handed in by the governing UPFA for the local government elections.

The Court has today ordered the Elections Commissioner and Returning Officers to accept all 19 nomination papers for the local government elections by the UPFA for Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts that were rejected.

Courts have also asked that two nomination papers of the main opposition UNP that were rejected also be accepted.

The Court of Appeal has issued the directive after hearing petitions filed by the UPFA, UNP and several independent parties over the rejection of nomination paper handed by them for the local government elections.
