COLUMBIA CITY – Two nonprofits in northeast Indiana that serve individuals and families of Whitley County impacted by intellectual and developmental disabilities are joining forces.

Easterseals Arc of Northeast Indiana and Columbia City-based nonprofit Passages have announced plans to combine.

The organizations, which share a similar mission, say the merger will allow them to provide additional services to their clients in the county.

After the merger, operations in the Fort Wayne area will continue to be known as Easterseals Arc, while operations in Whitley County will be known as Easterseals Passages.

“This is a great opportunity to provide new and innovative services and supports in Whitley County. We know we can do more together with Passages by combining our strengths,” said Donna Elbrecht, president and chief executive officer of Easterseals Arc.

Current Passages President and CEO Jason Meyer is expected to stay with the organization.

As part of the move, Fort Wayne-based nonprofit Brightpoint will take on The Whitley Crossings Neighborhood Corp., which is currently affiliated with Passages.

The organizations say the low- to moderate-income housing provided by Whitley Crossings is a better match for Brightpoint’s mission of removing the causes and conditions of poverty.

The goal is to complete the process by March 2021.
