Sri Lanka tea production on the rise
Sri Lanka Tea Council’s (SLTC) new Chairman Merrill J Fernando yesterday implored the government and all industry stakeholders to formulate a 10- year sustainable plan to take the world famous Ceylon Tea to its pristine glory.
Tea sold at the Colombo Tea Auction during the 1st quarter of this year has recorded the highest ever national average, thus reaching a price of 393 rupees and 90 cents per kilogram. Previous best price stood at 382 rupees and 90 cents.

The Sri Lanka Tea Exporters' Association handed over 03 million bags of tea worth US$ 60,000 to President Mahinda Rajapaksa today (21) to be sent to tsunami-stricken Japan.
The Sri Lanka Tea Exporters' Association handed over 03 million bags of tea worth US$ 60,000 to President Mahinda Rajapaksa today (21) to be sent to tsunami-stricken Japan.
Sri Lanka will dispatch three million packets of tea for the affected people in Japan. The stock of tea is worth 60,000 US dollars. It was donated by the Sri Lanka Tea Exporters Association. Several packs were presented to the President today at the Temple Trees to symbolize the occasion
